Coffee Tables

The coffee table holds everything: the books you mean to read, the candle that ties the room together, the remote you're always losing. It's also one of the easiest pieces to get right with a custom order — makers who build dining tables and side tables typically have the craft to dial in a coffee table exactly to your proportions.

Coffee tables on Alloy & Ash are built by woodworkers, metal fabricators, and design studios who treat a 20-by-48-inch rectangle as a real design problem, not a commodity.

    Materials

Solid walnut is the most common choice — warm-toned, durable, and forgiving of surface wear. White oak has a cooler, more contemporary look with pronounced ray flecks. Reclaimed wood adds history and no two pieces will match. Blackened or natural steel bases give visual lightness while adding industrial character. Marble and concrete tops are heavy and satisfying; they pair well with wood or steel bases.

    Sizing

The classic rule: the coffee table should be no taller than the seat height of your sofa — typically 16–18 inches — and about two-thirds its length. If your sofa is 84 inches, a 48–56 inch table is usually right. Leave 12–18 inches of clearance between table and sofa edge so there's room to sit forward comfortably.

A lower shelf is useful for books and baskets but collects dust. A solid slab base is cleaner and easier to style. Oval and rounded-corner tables are friendlier in tight spaces and with small kids.

Every piece on the marketplace is made to order. Escrow-protected checkout and a 5-day inspection window mean you can evaluate the piece in your room before funds clear.
