Side Tables

Side tables work hardest when you don't notice them. A lamp, a drink, a book — the good ones are sized right, sturdy enough to hold a full glass, and understated enough to disappear into the room. The great ones are the detail that makes a vignette click.
The side tables on Alloy & Ash run from simple turned-leg oak pieces to sculptural steel-and-wood hybrids to drum tables turned from a single block. They're made by woodworkers and metal fabricators who care about the craft behind a piece most people glance past.
Height and footprint
Match height to your sofa arm or bed: side tables typically fall between 22 and 28 inches for living room use, and 24–28 inches for bedroom nightstand height. The top should land within an inch or two of the armrest. In a tight corner, a 14–16 inch round table holds a lamp and a drink without crowding. In a wider seating arrangement, 20–24 inches gives more surface. C-shaped or slide-under designs work well next to low sofas with no armrests.
Materials
Solid walnut, white oak, and maple are the most common hardwoods. Welded steel and blackened iron pair naturally with leather sofas and industrial-leaning rooms. Mixed-material tables — wood top, steel base — bridge traditional and modern aesthetics without committing hard to either. Some makers offer stone or ceramic tops for a more finished look.
Most side tables build in 4–8 weeks. Made to order, signed by the maker, with a 5-day inspection window from the moment the piece arrives.
