Nightstands

The nightstand does more work than it gets credit for. It holds a lamp, a glass of water, a phone charging, and whatever you're reading — while looking right next to the bed, in a corner that gets poor light, at a height your lamp makes look twice its size.
The nightstands on Alloy & Ash are made by woodworkers who take bedside furniture as seriously as dining tables. Most build in 5–8 weeks.
Height and sizing
The top of the nightstand should land at or within an inch of the top of your mattress. Most nightstands are 24–28 inches tall; platform beds sit lower and want the lower end of that range. Width of 16–20 inches is standard — wide enough to hold a lamp and a few items without looking undersized next to a king bed.
Storage
A single drawer is the most versatile option: deep enough for a charger, a journal, and a few other things. Two drawers add capacity but also visual weight. Open nightstands with a lower shelf are minimal and airy — they suit smaller bedrooms where drawer fronts add bulk you don't need. Wall-mounted floating nightstands clear floor space entirely and pair naturally with platform frames.
Materials
Solid walnut is the most popular choice on the marketplace — warm, durable, and flattering in the amber light typical of bedrooms. White oak is cooler and pairs naturally with linen and neutral bedding. Painted matte black or white works in transitional settings where the nightstand should recede rather than lead.
